I'm currently reading The Dispossessed by Ursula K. Le Guin

I probably shouldn't be reading it late at night. I think a lot of it is flying over my head.

Anyways, word check:

puerile:
1 of or characteristic of a child; "puerile breathing"
2 adolescent: displaying or suggesting a lack of maturity; "adolescent insecurity"; "jejune responses to our problems"; "their behavior was juvenile"; "puerile jokes"

expropriation:
Expropriation refers to confiscation of private property with the stated purpose of establishing social equality. ...
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Expropriation

inimical:
Hostility (also called inimicality) is a form of angry internal rejection or denial in psychology. It is a part of personal construct psychology, developed by George Kelly. In everyday speech it is more commonly used as a synonym for anger and aggression.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inimical

prophylaxy:
Prophylaxis (Greek "προφυλάσσω" to guard or prevent beforehand) is any medical or public health procedure whose purpose is to prevent, rather than treat or cure a disease. ...

Things that make me smile

A motto to live by?
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, wine in the other, totally worn out and screaming 'WOOO HOOOOO what a ride!'

The picture of Ian peeling a coconut by the beach.

The picture of me standing by that absolutely gorgeous white horse.

My absolutely amazing friends. How did I get so lucky?

Thinking of my baby girl

Things that don't make me smile include people touching my belly uninvited and telling me how cute I am and how much I'm going to LOVE being a mother. Does that make me evil or something?

So, Ian's siblings are visiting from San Diego for these past 2-3 weeks. We all hiked out to Shipman Beach. Which is a lovely 1 hour hike with a nice protected white sand bay at the end. We took the coastal route which is a bit longer to get there and stopped for a little rest by the coconut grove. Had spam moussubi (sp?) and Ian peeled some coconuts for us to drink from.

I love this picture (It's truly candid, not staged - he really does use his feet)

Skyshattered

Yes, yes! I finally did it. I followed without getting knocked off and even landed on the runway just before Captain Skyshatter!

I don't even want to think about how many times I tried but I watched videos on Youtube (this was my second time) and this time found one where the guy defeated Skyshatter just by following him and constantly moving. This had already been suggested to me but I hadn't been very good at it but I decided to give it another try (especially after I had made it all the way to the final plateau and been knocked off in that final section twice).

So when I got to the final plateau I was pretty happy but then Skyshatter seemed to have disappeared on me and I thought, "darnit I'm gonna lose again" and I peeled out and started to head down the ridge in the direction I know Skyshatter is supposed to go after going crazy over the plateau and I landed on the runway and was like "dammit, he's not here" and I turned my interface back on and it didn't say that I had failed yet so I turned around and saw him land right behind me! Hoorah!! Hoorah!

Why is LJ dead?

I go to read my friends page for the first time in a long while and there is only one post. Is everyone's life going that perfectly or is it so bad that no one wants to talk about it? OH, I know, everyone is suffering from what we call "Polynesian paralysis" caused by excess consumption of very large amounts of rich and fatty foods!

We made apple pies and had a huge turkey and the fresh cranberries that my mother-in-law made were fantabulous. Sadly, I'll be up on the mountain for christmas this year so I'll either be having my xmas dinner early or late. Oh well, it will still be fun.

As to music, who listens to just one CD nowadays? I have a mixture set to play right now of Sleepless in Seattle, Enrique Iglesias, Chris Isaak, Cyndi Lauper and Barenaked Ladies. We just switched from "Makin' Whoopee" to "Only You" by Enrique. So I figured I wouldn't be able to fit this all into the tiny little "music" box down below. :-)

From my classmate's 12 year old son:

Two hydrogen atoms were walking along when one tripped and fell down.

When asked if it was okay the hydrogen atom replied, "I lost my electron!"

The other hydrogen atom replied, "Are you sure?"

"I'm positive!"

Back Home

So I'm back home. I got inspired looking around at all the homes I visited this time in California to come home and organize and hang my darn pictures and make my home generally look nicer. So yesterday I moved one dresser and put a bunch more junk in the junk room. *sigh* I need a friendly tornado to come in and just do it all for me. lol

I think I need shelves and stuff but that kind of stuff is either a) super duper uber expensive b) crappy and still expensive or c) super uber crappy

What am I to do? I can't afford (a) and I hate paying for (b) knowing that I'll just want to replace them later.

So I think I might start playing WoW again. But I must not let it suck my life away. But I'm realizing that I can either wander around the house and be bored and get a few things done or I can get a few things done and spend the rest of the time around the house playing stupid games! What would you all do?

Wow - I feel like I missed a lot

Hermaphroditic cats that get all pissed off? Vacations to far away places (or camps)? APBs and weird sandwiches? What are y'all doing over there?

Well, I met Ian's new tenant today. She's a very nice lady, probably round about her 50's and we went to the house to clean up a few more things and fix the leaky water pump (just needed an O-ring thank god) and knock over the old rotting green house thingy that the previous tenants left in the back. She gave us sweet bread, a whole loaf! She said she couldn't eat it because of her diet. Yum! We also just had steel-head trout that Ian brought back from Alaska for dinner and this morning we had apple banana pancakes so I definitely have to say I've been eating good :-)

Other than cleaning and errands today, I did some reading for my next Swinburne Astronomy Online class. Doing radio astronomy this semester. I have slowly but steadily worked thru half of the classes I need to get the master's.

I'm thinking that when Ian and I are in California in October we should take a trip out to apple country. Its kinda hard to get good apples out here even though we are growing pineapples and papayas and pumpkins and more. Oh yeah, and our little pineapple has more than doubled in size!
